What To Expect

Set in the hills of coastal Italy, Ruin follows Claire Bailey — a young woman desperate for a win as her family unravels, career teeters on the edge, and she recovers from heartbreak. Claire’s walls are up, and her eye is on the prize as she competes for an exclusive distribution deal with Vigneto Riserva del Regale. After a botched business dinner, she is thrown — manipulated, rather — into the orbit of the enigmatic Arik Medici, who conceals dangerous secrets and obsession hidden behind old-world charm. Arik continuously walks the line between possession and protection, and more so, the illusion of choice versus inevitability.

When Claire finally witnesses Arik’s monstrous side, the revelation is a payoff for the tension and suspicion woven throughout the first half of the story. What follows delivers a cascade of revelations about Arik’s true identity, the fate of the missing women who have disappeared from Vigneto Riserva del Regale, cursed islands with ancient vampires, and why Claire was really sent to Italy in the first place — recontextualizing everything that came before and rewarding attentive readers with jaw-dropping twists.

A Note on the MMC, Arik Medici

Arik is polished, worldly, rarely swears (when he does it is meaningful or oozes sexual tension), drips charm, has an English accent (went to Oxford), but is still morally ambiguous in the best ways. Imagine Edward Cullen if he were worldly, taller, wore tailored black suits, and had a dominant streak. He’s calculated, observant, and knows how to use a silent pause to his advantage.

Who Ruin is for…

Ruin is not a fast-paced, paranormal gothic romance with high-level spice — it is a lush, atmospheric slow-burn that reads like a mystery/thriller and features subplots that carry throughout the trilogy. Ruin delivers the same immersive dual-POV storytelling, lush European settings, and high-stakes romance that captivate readers of A Discovery of Witches and From Blood and Ash, weaving together forbidden love, ancient secrets, and supernatural suspense in every chapter. With emotionally complex characters and a sophisticated, breadcrumb-laden narrative, Ruin rewards attentive readers with grand reveals and a passionate, perilous journey.
